SmartMoney magazine attempts to guess what Mr Warren Buffett would buy during these "scary times on Wall Street".
Good Link; Don't Know About the Picks
Thanks for the link. But, I'm not so sure about the picks made. I mean, we have some idea what Buffett has bought in these "scary times on Wall Street" (USG for instance). He's bought businesses he likes at prices he likes. That's what he's always done (at Berkshire). Usually, the names that show up on these lists are far more "defensive" and far more fairly priced than what Buffett seems most interested in - at least that's how I see it.
When he buys into something in a big way, it usually isn't the kind of stock that would make people feel safe. Even when he's bought great businesses - there's often been a bit of a cloud over the industry, the company, etc.
One of his big recent purchases was ConocoPhillips (COP) - which I don't think many people saw coming.
I don't think Buffett worries about feeling safe in scary times. I think he tries to be greedy when others are fearful. These may be scary times; but, I don't see a lot of fear in current valuations.
