Don’t look now but Bruce Berkwowitz’s Fairholme Fund is having an outstanding 2012 after a disastrous 2011 in which the fund was down 32% as financials continued to get beat up and Sears Holdings (SHLD) ended the year on a sour note. Fairholme is up 10.63% YTD while the S&P 4.48%.

David Einhorn of Greenlight Capital announced yesterday that the Greenlight Capital L.P. fund returned 9.7% for the fourth quarter of 2011, bringing his full-year returns to 2.9%. Since Greenlight’s inception in May 1996, it has returned 10% annualized, net of fees and expenses At the same time, he initiated new positions in Dell (DELL) and Xerox (XRX).

Sequoia (SEQUX) is Looking for the Next Berkshire

Sequoia’s Robert Goldfarb and David Poppe recently took questions from Morningstar which has a 5 star rating on the fund. Apparently, Sequoia (SEQUX) is seeking a firm with as much earnings potential at a low price as Buffett’s company 20 years ago, but they note finding another Berkshire Hathaway is high unlikely.
