Vitaliy Katsenelson: You Don't Have to Be Sick to Own HMOs

(via contrarianedge.com)

In the following article that I wrote for Forbes.com I describe why we believe that HMO stocks like United Healthcare (UNH) and Well Point (WLP) (we own both) are incredible buys. Stocks had a small run since I wrote it, but their valuations are still compelling.

A Maestro of Investments-Lou Simpson

(via www.nytimes.com)

John Byrne, at the time the chairman of Geico, hired Lou Simpson in 1979 to run Geico's investments as CIO. Byrne sent several candidates to Warren Buffett to be interviewed, but following a four hour interview, Buffett called on Byrne to stop the process, "That's the fellow."

The "fellow" has one of the great records in investing, like Buffett, looking for great businesses with a sustainable competitive advantage. He operates independently of Buffett with somewhat higher turnover but similar discipline.

The Complete User's Guide to Warren Buffett's Portfolio

(via biz.yahoo.com)

Excerpt: "There's no need to reinvent the wheel. Buffett, the smartest investor ever, has done a lot of work for us when he buys a position and then discloses his holdings. Studying in the footsteps of the master and his disciples, but using that as a starting point for your own research, will end up being a very lucrative practice."

How One Pro Finds "Great Companies"

(via www.businessweek.com)

A Businessweek article about Jim Huguet, president and co-CEO of Great Companies. Basically, this is an interview with a fund manager. I wouldn't call it a value portfolio, but it does focus on great businesses led by great managers.
