’Tis the season for stock predictions! Virtually every financial writer will pen an article selecting his or her top picks for the upcoming year. I enjoy reading them and the logic behind the picks and sometimes there is a gem to be found.

I was looking at the front page of Value Investing News last night (October 17, 2007), and the New 52-Week Lows list jumped out at me. This list is packed with top quality companies, many of which have sustainable competitive advantages.

Morningstar is looking for opportunites in the fear surrounding the non-prime lending industry and other real-estate based companies.

I don't see any particular value quite yet, but I'd be suprised if we don't see some fear induced mispricing in the coming months.
