Looking for Truckers
Does anyone here have contacts in the trucking industry or are truck drivers themselves? I'm hoping to chat with a few truck drivers about where they get their fuel. Do they primarily use truck stops like TA and Petro or do they use other alternatives? What are the other alternatives? How often do they use them? Do they switch where they fuel up depending on the price of diesel? Are the amenities provided at truck stops important in their decision of where to get fuel?
I you can help me answer these questions or know someone who can, please leave a comment below. I'd like to either set up phone calls or email the individuals. If that is not possible, maybe you can share my questions with your contacts and provide the responses you get here in this forum thread.
Thanks for any help that you can provide.

"I don't remember which stop does it, but there's a chain where if you buy more than X amount of gas, you get a free shower / access to their facilities. I have a friend that does long-haul team trucking (or at least used to, now he's solo) that would trade off with his teammate every time they stopped for which got the shower. As I recall they made two gas stops a day, which was perfect.
So - shower/bathroom/etc facilities. Basically, the kind of stuff you really want to have access to on your few stops that you won't have in the cab. You have a bed, you have snacks, but good food or a shower or a toilet? Probably not.
... and yeah, you're not exactly pulling a semi and trailer into a local gas station when you want to fill up, you need a facility sized for trucks at the pumps / somewhere to park and take a short break."

"I remember him saying that some places allow them to shower and sometimes have hookers available and waiting."
Thanks for sharing these links on truck stops. I was looking at the stock TA before and I wanted to get a better handle on their business.
TA truckstops have recently caught the attention of value investors. I wish I had picked up shares. Rumor has it that LUK has been adding a position on this stock. Any other value investors looking at TA?
Yes, I bought a good amount of TA recently. My analysis is posted at http://www.arohanvalue.com/2009/09/13/travel-centers-of-america-investme...
I think it is significantly undervalued today due to concerns about its relationship with HPT and the general trucking volume declines over the last year.
