Financial Data
I've been thinking about financial data lately. I thought it might be interesting to see with other members of Value Investing News look for when researching stocks. Please join in this conversation. Here are some questions to get us started:
What are the key pieces of financial data of interest to value investors? What are the most important financial fundamentals and ratios? Would you like to see some of this type of data on Value Investing News? What do you find are the best sources of this data?

I like two totally different
I like two totally different kinds of screens. One looks for "deep value" cigar butts, net current asset stocks(selling for current assets - total liab-preferred shares) Evaluating after that I do company to company.
other data that is helpful
balances sheet health, debt to equity, current ratio, return on equity and capital , % decline in share price over short period of time, earnings growth, projected eps growth, PE. I wish I remembered the criteria for a screen I ran about a year or so ago before PBR had its big run. George, I think you were onto PBR then to. I found two gems, PBR and CPL in that screen. maybe Bronco Drilling to. pretty sure roe, % decline, net margin > 1, maybe dividends to were in it.

Start with Morningstar, then add...
Hey George,
I always start with Morningstar's "Key Ratios" tab. Looking at the 10-year ROA and ROE gives you a good idea of moat. I wish they had ROIC, that would be the best.
I'd also like to see EBIT/EV (where EV = mktcap + debt - cash). I believe this is a better valuation ratio then P/E. Straight earnings yield (E/P) would be okay too.
Lastly, Free Cash Flow Yield (FCF/P) is probably the best valuation measure, but you can't find it anywhere.
I'm hoping XBRL is the solution we're looking for. I've found that NAIC's site, betterinvesting.org, is a great resource for tabular financial data, and it's only $7 a month. But no cash flow numbers. Google Finance's IS/BS/CFS pages are easily parsed if you're a decent code monkey (I am).
