I totally agree. If you've seen the recent Morningstar interview of Bruce Berkowitz, even he subtly hints that Sears is by no means a retailer. Despite this, Sears is still a bargain...

That was a pretty scary story about how business is going at Sears.

Looks like Berkowitz is talking up WellCare again in this video. Also talks about buying Sears (SHLD) and Canadian Natural Resources.

Please link to the video directly so people don't have to click as much. Also, please add a short description to your submissions. It can even be a quote of the first or last sentence if you are short on time.

I've updated the link for you so you still get credit for this nice find. Thanks Todd.

I haven't really thought

I haven't really thought about WellCare until this article. I'll have to look into it.

It also seems like the more I read that Sears Holdings is the next Berkshire, the less I'm convinced. I think Western Sizzlin is closer to the next Berkshire than Sears Holdings.

I also went ahead and added the tickers SHLD, SATS, and WCG.

George, Sears may not have

George, Sears may not have a moat in the traditional sense (ie. USG has a pretty large moat on Sheetrock products, Walmart has a moat on its economy of scale )but is it possible that they have a moat in their land holdings. I know that this is a fairly common argument among Sears shareholders, in other words, that Sears holds 1/5 of the mall space in America but that is fairly large for one retailer. hmmm....I guess i'm just stuck between its assets and its "failing" business.

SHLD is not a DCF stock, it is an asset play, both land and brand values.

No Sears in the Fat Pitch

No Sears in the Fat Pitch Financials Port since it has no moat. Buffett has noted that when a good management meets a bad business, it is the reputation of the business that generally prevails.

I just hope everyone doesn't have a bad case of goupthink on sears. I don't really care how smart Lampert is, Sears Holdings its still a failing business and until it starts getting some positive cash flow its still a dicey one.

Be sure not to miss this

Be sure not to miss this last quote in the article:

"He did really well on Autozone,” said Bruce Greenwald, a professor of finance and economics at Columbia University. “Most of his stocks are retail stocks, and he has done really well with them. So he decided he was a genius at retail, and it didn’t occur to him he could be wrong about it. He believed his own press.”

Ouch, that comment by Greenwald has got to hurt.
