Thanks for pointing me to this post on the competition in the search engine wars for an investor's perspective. Looking at the comments, maybe I should also take a look at Ask.com.

Not sure it will either. The point of the piece - perhaps somewhat buried in numbers - was that even if Google does everything right and hits the magic $1k you won't make much of a return. The risks on the downside are quite large, we agree.

I can't stomach the fact of Google hitting $1000. I know know if it is the pragmatic bear in me, but the fact the company is already trading at something like 60 times earnings makes my stomach ill.

In general agreement that Yahoo may be too cheap on a relative basis especially vis a vis Google. Recent numbers have disappointed but it is clear that management are taking steps to overhaul their product and sister sites. Cautiously optimistic that Yahoo will make a comeback and the valuations will narrow.
