The returns at Tontine have been strong for a while. They rode the homebuilders for a long time and have made money in E&C lately. But if you check out their 13F, I am sure you can find some ideas. I think they file under Jeff Gendell. Superficially, looks like picking up some financial exposure, some airlines and select tech themes, though I promise nothing of my reading of this.

Be sure not to miss this last quote in the article:

"He did really well on Autozone,” said Bruce Greenwald, a professor of finance and economics at Columbia University. “Most of his stocks are retail stocks, and he has done really well with them. So he decided he was a genius at retail, and it didn’t occur to him he could be wrong about it. He believed his own press.”

Ouch, that comment by Greenwald has got to hurt.

To be expected as I believe this is by the same author who at one stage was recommending Owens Cornings as by his calculations it was selling at a ridiculously low P/E.... If I remember correctly he initially touted it as emerging from chapter 11 with a p/e of ~2

Are you truly serious - recommending a stock because Oprah said something about shopping there??? She is the one who endorsed books that were plagiarized or not true. Why would you even consider giving her a tiny bit of credibility? She is simply an overweight talking head who appeals to soccer Moms. No financial person should even acknowledge her existence
