After corresponding with Alex, I discovered that there is a technical issue with the colors. Some visitors might have cached files that are making Value Investing News appear differently with strange colors. If you are having that problem, just hit F5 when viewing Value Investing News.

Do you mean the link color

Do you mean the link color and headline color are purple? They look closer to periwinkle to me. I'm not seeing any other purple, but maybe there is some technical issue.

Great study George the fact

Great study George the fact is most "investors" do not practice "safety". I am an accountant and have prepared MANY sets of financials and i would NEVER invest in a financial because of lack of transperency.besides the sub prime mess was WELL KNOWN all summer. I am AMUSED by the amount of people who "like uncertaintity" when investing. Buffett says in Hagestrom and Billytickets book Risk is MISJUDGING the future earnings of the business.DFC did NOT have CONTROL over their fate.the subprime mess CONTROLLED it. Great post George

DFC poll

Remember this poll from back in August. It goes to show you that there is not always wisdom in crowds. I hope most of the 49 yes voters didn't actually hold shares in DFC.

I should really revisit all the past polls in a series of blog posts. I'm interested to see how we've done with our calls.

Range-bound Market Poll

The question is far too broad.

If you define DOW 12,000 to 16,000 as the range then of course we are range-bound. If you define DOW 13,800 to 14,300 as the range then we are not range-bound.

It's hard to ignore taxes

It's hard to ignore taxes though. They count.
Other. If the company is great buybacks are the best second to reinvesting in the company. Then dividends. For a par subpar company with low ROIC dividends are best because the company can't do much better with the cash itself. I'm inbetween though overall. I'm skeptical of most managers so in that case, dividends.
buybacks

Taxes

If you ignore taxes it really doesn't matter. Buybacks should be made at attractive prices and not used to pay for employee stock options (dilution).
