I was wrong

In case any one comes across this article, I want you to know that I was in no way correct about this investment. bond_daddy and the other detractors ended up being pretty spot on here, and my analysis was simply off. I sold my shares at about $2.00 today and it's probably for the best.

Management has been saying, q after q, that things will improve, here's our plan, etc etc. None of it is being implemented correctly and they seem to have a consistent rosy outlook that is inconsistent with reality.

My assessment of the stability of their assets was also incorrect. The write downs continued after my purchases and it seems earnings power is very much impaired. With the shares at 1.90, and 2.20 in tangible book value, the invesment is no longer very compelling. It's not incredibly cheap nor is it well run. My estimate of value eroded and my margin of safety crumbled.

So, to those that brought up many points that subsequently became true, the credit goes to you. This was a dud of a Christmas present.

Thank You.

Kenkid, Thanks for your endorsement of my book. I tried to keep it short and focused. Back in April of this year, I had a contract offer from a big publishing house in NJ. However, I had to turn them down after their desires to change the title (drop Charlie Munger) and expand the text with fluff. So, this book is what I intended it to be; a look into the amazing four filters process Buffett and Munger use to frame investment decisions.

Without the big marketing and distribution systems of a large publishing house, the book's exposure and readership will depend on you and others like you to get the word around the investing community. I am glad you like it. Bud

Welcome grammar to Value Investing News. I've been enjoying your recent link submissions.

There does appear to be an issue with "marketstock". I'll look into that account shortly and take corrective action.

Automatted submissions and/or voting are not allowed. That includes voting on dozens of story links within a minute.

The Four Filters is

The Four Filters is EXCELLENT. I've read many value investing books, and i find this one to be one of the best by far. Bud's book would be perfect for the beginner. He has done a great job organizing the information and inserting quotes. I'm halfway done and can't put it down. I'm sure I'll be re-reading this many times.

This is an excellent posts -

This is an excellent posts - almost a reminder of that a step wise disciplined approach to investment analysis is humanly possible!

I have two points to make:

1. The yield shows up as <3% right now on Morningstar as well as Yahoo Finance. Since the today's price about lowest in 2008, I cant grasp the difference between what Mark said (6%+) on Feb 4th v/s <3% today (March 13th)

2. As Mohnish Pabrai says, can we try to differentiate between risk and uncertainty.
Near term uncertainty about earnings is pretty clear on this stock due to credit crunch environment. Question is - if there is a real risk of losing earnings power or mere uncertainty as to when the earnings power well be restored for MHP.

Any opinion?
