Thanks for following up on

Thanks for following up on the Think or Swim valuation. Too bad this company doesn't really have a moat. Given the current market, I'm trying to strictly stick to wide moat companies.

George,

not linkbait but an honest observation. I have actually been posting on this on the blog for a while now. Between Fox and CNBC, Buffett has almost become a weekly contributor. Having Becky Quick with him on all his trips? Since when has Buffett ever been so visible?

The things of it is, he really does not have anything new to say anymore. It isn't just him, I do not think anyone could given the exposure...

Todd Sullivan

Re: Sick of Buffett Stories?

I don't find his wisdom on investing tiresome but he seems to be succumbing to what I would call "the Nobel Prize winner effect". That is, assuming that after one has achieved great success in one field one has broad competence in things well beyond one's field of expertise.

I wonder if this story is just some good linkbait by Todd or whether Todd is actually being a contrarian on Buffett. I personally can't get enough of Buffett's wisdom. It's fairly typically to hear a lot from Buffett in May and I actually think I've heard a little less from him this year than I did last year.

The whole company sells for

I figure Think or Swim alone is worth conservatively $6 to $8 a share based on its revenue of $110 million last year times 4. TD Ameritrades AMTD goes for 5 times sales and Charles Schwab (SCHW) is 5 times sales.

After corresponding with Alex, I discovered that there is a technical issue with the colors. Some visitors might have cached files that are making Value Investing News appear differently with strange colors. If you are having that problem, just hit F5 when viewing Value Investing News.

Do you mean the link color and headline color are purple? They look closer to periwinkle to me. I'm not seeing any other purple, but maybe there is some technical issue.

Response from Author

It was meant to be humorous as you state. I think generally Value investors are irascible people in life, and it makes some of them bitter to see investors succeed at a strategy that has nothing to it really. Compare the body of "scholarly" work on Value and Growth investing and you can see that Growth has no body of work so to speak.

Also, if you had bought Apple five years ago, it was probably a value stock then.

According to Einhorn, there are still significant risks in the market.

His value strategy is to first determine if a situation has been misunderstood by the market. Then he goes back to confirm it is cheap.

He recommends Arkema (ARKAY), a chemical company in France, Criteria Caixa (CRI), an investment company in Spain. Trades at a 35% discount to its holdings. He also mentions Microsoft (MSFT) and Target.
