Foreign Bonds in a Declining Market and Low Interest Rates

(via cathypareto.blogspot.com)

The debt of developed foreign countries is looking more and more attractive lately as the FED continues its rate slashing bonanza in an effort to revive a dying U.S. economy. How value investor Chou wins with bonds

(via www.theglobeandmail.com)

Mr. Francis Chou’s method can be boiled down to a few principles. As he wrote in his 2007 report to unitholders, “the cardinal principle of investing is to think first about preserving capital before thinking about making money. The greater the probability of permanent loss of capital, the greater the spread should be between a particular debt instrument and risk-free treasuries.”

Just Another Credit Crunch?

(via www.sancoservices.com)

Many investors are beginning to think that income investing is every bit as risky as equity investing, but nothing has really changed in the relationship between these two basic building blocks of corporate finance. What has changed in recent years is the nature of the derivative products created by the wizards of Wall Street to deliver both forms of securities to investors.

Municipal Bond Investors: No Smooth Sailing Ahead

(via disciplinedinvesting.blogspot.com)

Three significant events could impact the value of municipal bonds this year other than interest rate movements. For example, state specific risk (Michigan auto industry distress and Florida real estate property tax issues), GASB regulation risk and states trying to circumvent these new regs, and Supreme Court case: Kentucky v.
