Mohnish Pabrai the next Berkshire CIO?

I Don't Know about Pabrai

I don't know about Pabrai. He certainly seems the most Buffett like, but I'm not sure he's what Buffett's looking for. His experience is similar to Buffett's BEFORE he started running Berkshire's investments. He's run a very Graham / Early Buffett portfolio of super cheap stocks.

I think Buffett's looking for a business analyst much more than people think. I'm not sure Pabrai is his guy. But, I haven't read his books (I'm not even sure the second one is out yet, is it?) so maybe I don't know enough about Pabrai.

He definitely emulates Buffett. But, I don't know if he'd be perfect for the kind of huge, "forever" investments in very large (great) businesses Berkshire is likely to need in the future - heck, needs now!

Additionally, I'm not sure

Additionally, I'm not sure Pabrai's track record of ~8 years is long enough to be considered either.

I Think Buffett Will Go With His Gut

Buffett is a good judge of people. I think he will go with his gut on this one - which isn't to say he'll be fast, but I don't think he'll need a long track record so much as a consistent one in terms of approach even if the results aren't consistent.

Obviously, he may look to people we don't talk much about. He could consider insurance companies' investment side since he would be quite familiar with them and their performance. But, he already has the best at Geico. Maybe he'll look for the second best.

Mohnish Pabrai

I'm not sure that Mohnish Pabrai has enough "Munger" in him to make the cut for the next Berkshire Hathaway investment manager. However, I'm never met Pabrai or seen an interview with him. He could be more dynamic than his current holdings indicate.
