2008 Resolutions
By George on Mon, 2007-12-31 10:27
Today is New Year's Eve so I thought we could discuss resolutions for the upcoming year.
My resolutions for 2008 include the following:
- Get more sleep - With two young children in the house and a rapidly growing business, I tend to get too little sleep. I believe this has caused me to make a few silly investment mistakes this year and has impacted my ability to think clearly.
- Improve networking and discussion with other investors - In 2007, I really started to network with other investors for the first time. I want to focus this year on building on that start. I also plan on focusing my attention on improving the Value Investing News forum so it is the first place value investors think of when they want to discuss value investing. In addition, I plan on implementing some more advanced social networking features right here at VIN so investors don't have to rely as much on LinkedIn and Facebook.
- Dig a Moat - I've spent a lot of time thinking about the economic moats that the companies I invest in have. This coming year I want to start applying that knowledge to building up my personal competitive advantages and develop a plan to build up a moat around my own online business.
- Increase Stock Analysis - 2007 was a very busy year for me. As my business started growing rapidly, I have devoted more time to it. This has had an impact on the amount of stock analysis I've been able to do. Given the melt down in financial and housing stocks, there are bound to be excellent opportunities in the market in 2008. I plan on focusing more time on my investment analysis next year and sharing that analysis at Fat Pitch Financials.
- Revamp Fat Pitch Financials Contributor's Corner - My FPF Contributor's Corner service started out as way to reward donors to my blog. I shared my unique and popular Going Private Transactions List with the donors as a thank you. Over time the types of special situation stock opportunities covered by FPF Contributor's Corner has expanded. This has strained the software and database that runs Contributor's Corner. Now that Fat Pitch Financials is a real business and the blog generates a sufficient amount of revenue, it is time to make some major upgrades to Contributor's Corner. The technological upgrade is already underway. After that is completed, I hope to improve the marketing and business plan associated with Contributor's Corner.
